SOCIAL SYSTEMS AUDITOR TRAINING COURSE – BASED ON SMETA BEST PRACTICE GUIDANCE

There are many social management systems worldwide, like ETI, SA 8000, WRAP, ICTI etc. All of the above set out auditable provisions specific to child labor, forced labor, health and safety, trade union rights, discrimination, disciplinary practices, compensation, working hours and management systems. Working to improve audit standards, SGS has worked with SEDEX (Supplier Ethical Data Exchange) members to develop the SMETA Best Practice Guidance. It also conducts thousands of independent audits against the requirements of this and other Codes for major retailers, brands and manufacturers.

Objective

  • Describe the potential range of social issues that face organisations and auditors, and the range of conventions, specifications, codes of conduct and other initiatives;
  • Describe the fundamental purpose of a management system and explain the purpose, content andinterrelationship of the SMETA Best Practice Guidance, local industry practice, the relevant legislative framework;
  • Describe the responsibilities of an auditor and describe the role of audit in the maintenance and improvement of social systems, in accordance with ISO 19011;
  • Conduct and report an audit of a social system of an organisation in accordance with ISO 19011 and by interpreting the requirements of the SMETA Best Practice Guidance.

Course Outline
This course takes delegates through a whole audit cycle at a fictitious factory and covers:

  • Background to Social Accountability
  • Introduction to SMETA Best Practice Guidance
  • The planning and preparation of audits
  • Social accountability legislation
  • Auditing tools and techniques  
  • Audit reporting and follow-up

Certification
Delegates who successfully complete the course will be issued an IRCA accredited certificate.  This can form part of the qualification required to be registered as an Internal Social Systems Auditor.

This course is also recognized by Marks and Spencer plc as the training requirement to become an approved 2nd party auditor for their programme.
