In order to inform stakeholders their environmental performance, international corporations started to publish environmental reports in additional to their annual reports. This was gradually evolved into environmental, health and safety reports, and then social responsibility reports or sustainability reports. Environmental reports are also mandatory for all Government departments of the SAR. The quality of the disclosure varies however. The what, how and control of such disclosure is important, and third party assurance is the vital.
Course Objectives This program aims to enable delegates to understand the power of sustainability reporting, how to do it, the GRI reporting framework and the AA1000 standard, and practice in reporting. It also equips delegates with the knowledge and ability to assure the accuracy and reliability of such reporting and techniques to continual improvement.
Course Outline Day 1 – Background and the Reporting Guidelines
- The environmental and societal impacts of corporations – Interpretations of sustainability, fair trade, WTO and its aftermaths, the triple bottom lines
- Corporation performance and transparency – Drivers on environmental and sustainability reporting
- The GRI and AA1000 reporting guidelines
Day 2 – Environmental and Sustainability Report Assurance
- Environmental / sustainability accounting – The prospective within national accounting, financial accounting, and management accounting,
- Reporting logistics
- Stakeholder engagement
- Environmental / sustainability report assurance
- Continual improvement in reporting
Who Should Attend Staff and individuals who need:
- to manage, plan and implement reporting of the company’s environmental / sustainability performance,
- to set up and/or implement integrated management system,
- to set up and/or implement assurance and improvement of performance reporting for the company.
