IRCA CERTIFIED SOCIAL SYSTEM (SA 8000) FOUNDATIONAL TRAINING COURSE (CPD1113)
SA 8000 stands for "Social Accountability 8000". It is the first global standard for ethical sourcing applicable to all industries, any where in the world. Based on the conventions of the International Labour Organization and related international human rights instruments. SA 8000 sets out auditable provisions on child labour, forced labour, health and safety, compensation and working hours, and the management to deliver them. Similar to the ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 Standards, SA 8000 is designed to seek independent third party verification and certification.
Objective
Increasing pressures from customers, the general public, pressure groups and the governments are exerted on companies to demonstrate their commitments to ethical purchasing. In response, many businesses have developed their own codes of conduct to specify fair and safe conditions with which their products should be made. As the number of such codes increased, it became clear for the need of an international standard. SA 8000 is robust and independently auditable. It demonstrates to both the company and the customers that the best practice is in place.
