SGS Hong Kong Accredited as Local Telecommunications Certification Body
SGS Hong Kong Ltd. has recently been accredited by Hong Kong’s Office of the Telecommunications Authority (OFTA) as a Local Certification Body (LCB). From October 1, 2009, SGS Hong Kong is authorized to carry out testing and certification of telecommunication equipment for use in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong Telecommunications Equipment Evaluation and Certification (HKTEC) Scheme
As required by the Office of the Telecommunications Authority (OFTA), telecommunications equipment (TE) is subject to a certification and labeling scheme. This includes radio communications equipment and wireline equipment that are used for connecting to the public telecommunication networks (PTN), and industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) equipment that emit radio frequency energy intentionally and that are for use or sale in Hong Kong.
Type of Certification Scheme
Depending on the type of equipment, Voluntary Certification Scheme (VCS) or Compulsory Certification Scheme (CCS) shall apply. Equipment found to comply with the relevant technical specifications may carry the certification label.

Equipment classified Under Voluntary Certification Scheme (VCS)
- Mobile Equipment for use in the public mobile radiotelephone service
- TV antenna amplifier
- Low power device
- Model control and radio equipment operating in the 27MHz band
- Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Equipment
- Cordless telecommunications apparatus (CTA)
- 409 MHz short-range portable radio
- Medical implant communication system
- Public paging receiver
Equipment classified Under Compulsory Certification Scheme (CCS)
- Wireless microphone equipment not exempted from licensing
- Citizen Band (CB) radio equipment
- Land Mobile Radio Equipment
- Fixed Link Equipment
- SSB equipment for voluntary fitting in small craft in the 1.605-27.5 MHz frequency band
- Angle modulated VHF maritime for voluntary fitting in small craft
- Industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) equipment
