08/01/08		Consumer Testing		Risk Assessment of VOC emission from consumer products Health effects commonly associated with exposure to volatile organic compounds (VOC) include non-specific symptoms such as headache, fatigue, irritation, nasal congestion, and dry skin. While these symptoms are not necessarily indicative of critical health effects upon short term exposure, they may have an important influence on sensitive group in poorly ventilated environment upon prolonged and repeated exposure. Thus, VOC emission has become an essential product selection criterion for both consumers and professional purchasers.
07/01/08		Consumer Testing		Norway PoHS - Prohibition on certain hazardous substances in consumer products The Norwegian Pollution Control Authority has released a proposal for new chemical restrictions applying to consumer products, including electrical and electronics products. Norway PoHS restricts 18 substances, with only Lead and Cadmium being in common with EU RoHS. PoHS is more stringent that the maximum concentration values are as low as 5ppm. It will have significant impact on Norwegian consumable manufacturer, import, export and sale. PoHS is originally planned to become effective on 1st January 2008. However, it may be potentially delayed as there are considerations for around 90 responses to Norway’s stakeholder consultation.
