02/11/07 Consumer Testing Irresistible Offer for Nutrition Information Labels for Prepackaged Food in Hong Kong
In early October 2007, the Hong Kong Government announced that Hong Kong would follow Australia and New Zealand on the requirement of nutrition information labels on prepackaged food. The Government introduced a food composition analysis to include energy plus nine nutrients (or 9+1) on nutrition labels in the earlier proposal but is now considering either to change to seven (energy plus 6 nutrients or 6+1) or eight (energy plus 7 nutrients or 7+1), skipping cholesterol, dietary fiber and calcium. The final proposal will be tabled at the Legislative Council for approval at year end.
