19/05/09		Consumer Testing		RoHS 2.0 –  SGS New Service for Proposed New Restricted Substances Draft COM(2008) 809/4 proposed 4 new substances in the next generation of RoHS Directive. The proposed revised RoHS directive would cover medical devices as well as monitoring and control instruments. Moreover, 4 new chemicals (brominated flame retardants HBCDD and the phthalates DEHP, BBP and DBP) would be reviewed for possible inclusion on a list of 6 substances already banned from use in electrical goods under RoHS.

06/05/09		Life Science		Evaluation of Effectiveness of Chemical Disinfectants Disinfectants are intended to kill and inhibit microorganisms’ growth. A high quality disinfectant should have effectiveness against bacteria (bactericidal activity) and fungi (fungicidal activity). In EN 1276 and EN 1650, product’s effectiveness can be evaluate under simulated clean condition (a surface which have been cleaned and has minimal levels of organic and/or inorganic materials) or simulated dirty condition (a surface which are know to contain organic and/or inorganic materials, by the addition of various level of bovine albumin).
