The shoe fitter’s knowledge and experience is therefore paramount in carefully assessing the foot to shoe relationship so that only the very best fitting shoes are approved. SGS is proud to add the capability of issuing independent full shoe fitting services (adult and children’s footwear) for European and US end buyer markets to its footwear testing services. 25/06/09		Consumer Testing		Degradation of Fabric Properties Due to Chlorine Exposure Swimwear fabrics are manufactured using a variety of fibre combinations and fibre types. The fabric properties can be very dependent on the fibre content and types of fibres used in the fabric. Some fabrics are more sensitive to exposure to chlorinated water than others which might result in a loss in strength coupled with an increase in stretch and decrease in recovery.
25/06/09		Consumer Testing		SGS Offers CPSIA Compliance Program for Children's Products The CPSIA regulation was implemented on 14 August 2008, aiming at ensuring the safety of consumer products, especially those designed for children, under the age of 12. The CPSC has granted a 1-year stay of enforcement for testing and certification of certain children’s products subject to the CPSIA. The stay does not relieve the manufacturer or importer from the responsibility of ensuring that their products meet all applicable product safety requirements, including those covered by the stay of enforcement for testing and certification. Since the covered products still have to comply with the regulations as stated, the CPSIA regulation inevitably poses challenges to everyone that manufactures, imports, or distributes apparel, footwear and other children’s products into the United States. 23/06/09		Consumer Testing		Thomson Research Associates Awards Laboratory Certificate to SGS Hong Kong In November 2008, SGS signed an agreement with Thomson Research Associates (TRA) to discuss testing on anti-microbial treated textiles and polymers. On 26 May 2009, Thomson Research Associates awarded SGS Hong Kong Ltd their Laboratory Approval Certificate which allows SGS to provide anti-microbial treatment testing services to clients of TRA.
23/06/09		Consumer Testing		Energy-using Products (EuPs) –  Alert for External Power Supplies Commission Regulation (EC) No 278/2009 entry into force on 27 April 2009 set out ecodesign requirement for no-load condition electric power consumption and average active efficiency of external power supplies. Products fall in the scope of the Regulation must comply with the requirements otherwise they will not be allowed on the market.
