Oct 2009 | 50th Anniversary Gala Luncheon On 28 September, SGS Hong Kong marked its 50th anniversary with the hosting of a gala luncheon well attended by top-ranking government officials and dignitaries, group’s top management and regional top management and over 200 distinguished guests. The event, which was held at the Centenary Room of Marco Polo Hong Kong Hotel, Tsim Sha Tsui, was proudly officiated by Mrs Rita Lau JP, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Bureau, HKSAR Government, Dr Hans Roth, Consul General of Swiss Consulate of HKSAR, Mr Bruce Hicks, Member of the Strategy Sub-Committee of the Council for Sustainable Development alongside Mr Chris Kirk, Chief Executive Officer of SGS Group, Mr Richard Tobin, Chief Financial Officer of SGS Group, Mr Helmut Chik, Chief Operating Officer for China and Hong Kong region and Mr Spencer Yeung, Executive Director of SGS Hong Kong. In sync with the theme of “Make Future Possible with Trust”, the event put the overriding focus on our sustainability resolution, as reflected through a stream of event offerings from keynote speeches on sustainability trend, carbon-neutral initiative to charitable support to Medecins Sans Frontieres. SGS Hong Kong is strongly committed to garnering the collateral efforts in help making a sustainable future. |

Sep 2009 | International Conference & Exhibition of the Modernization of Chinese Medicine & Health Product (ICMCM) 2009 SGS exhibited in ICMCM from 13 to 17 August at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. We were able to get in touch with many industry leaders during the fair and they had been deeply impressed by our professional service and expertise. In addition, we are proud of our participation in the “Exhibitor’s Forum” of ICMCM to deliver a presentation on “The Future Roadmap of the Quality Management for the Modernization of Chinese Medicine”. Audiences are interested in the information that we had shared about the GMP for pharmaceutical industry and the movement on the international herbal and Chinese Medicine regulation. |

Jul 2009 | Chief Executive of HKSAR, Mr Donald Tsang Visits SGS Hong Kong On 26 June, 2009, Chief Executive of HKSAR, Mr Donald Tsang and his official delegation meet with the Management board of SGS Hong Kong and visit Hardgoods laboratory and VOC laboratory. The visit follows the Government’s latest proposal of developing Testing and Certification Industry as one of the six priority economic sectors. |

Jul 2009 | Green Hong Kong – Carbon Audit Campaign On July 3, 2009, the Environmental Protection Department celebrated the first anniversary of the Green Hong Kong – Carbon Audit Campaign where SGS was proudly invited to receive an award from Edward Yau, Secretary for Environment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government. The award was given in recognition of SGS’s outstanding efforts in supporting a greener and healthier Hong Kong through unique sustainability services including carbon audit and carbon management. |

Jul 2009 | Workshop on Eco-Labels and Certification Schemes for the Textile Industry SGS collaborated with the German Chamber of Commerce (GCC) to host a seminar on Eco Labeling and Textile Certification Schemes. Held at the GIC/GCC Office on June 10, 2009, the workshop discussed the current eco labels and certification schemes in the textile industry, and how these could help businesses become more sustainable. A notable portion of the workshop was the lecture of the Vice President of Bluesign Technologies AG. Widely experienced in the developments of the textile industry, he spoke about concerns regarding sustainable textiles. The points and solutions presented in the seminar were well received by the audience, and SGS is pleased to have co-hosted the fruitful seminar with the GCC. |

Jun 2009 | Seminar on “Developing the Domestic Market of Mainland China and Taiwan” by Hong Kong Trade Development Council On 17 June, SGS Hong Kong is invited by Hong Kong Trade Development Council to deliver a presentation on Regulatory requirements for Electrical and Electronics products in entering into China Market. The presentation focuses on China RoHS, CCC requirements and China Energy Efficiency Requirements. The seminar draws huge responses from over 100 participants from SMEs. |
